Clarkdale AZ

Clarkdale was built in the early 1900s by William Clark as a bedroom community to support his Jerome mines.

There are 4 levels of Clarkdale: Upper Clarkdale, which was posh housing for the mine execs and their families, each with a “Bachelor’s Quarters” attached. To get an Upper Clarkdale house you had to agree to let a bachelor stay in the quarters. I don’t know if you had to feed him or not.

Lower Clarkdale, which was not so elaborate but still nice, is closer to the shopping and park. Patio Town down by the river was definitely not nice at all. Patio Town was segregated.

The fourth level is the surrounding new homes and big acreages with incredible views, and Mountain Gate, Clarkdale’s newest subdivision.

I have a hard time remembering that the fourth level is actually Clarkdale, lucky them!

In my mind, the one most important thing is that Clarkdale has the 2 best accesses to the Verde River, and miles of it! The Tuzigoot Access and The Tapco Access are some of the dogs and my favorite places in the world!
